‘Stranger Things’ actor Gaten Matarazzo recovering from surgery

Feb. 1 (UPI) — Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo posted on Instagram that he is recovering from serious mouth surgery related to an ongoing health condition.

“Surgery number 4! This is a big one! To learn more about Cleidocranial Dysplasia and how you can help those with the condition you can go to ccdsmiles.org,” the 17-year-old actor captioned Thursday’s photo of him in a hospital bed, giving the thumb’s up sign.

A day later, Matarazzo offered an update.

“Though my expression in this picture may not show it, the surgery was a complete success. This was such A big one, it may be the last one I need. Hopefully at least. Those who suffer from Cleidocranial Dysplasia usually have Supernumerary teeth, which are extra teeth that grow in the gums.” he explained, alongside another photo of him in the hospital, this time with his face bandaged.

“I’ve had several surgeries to extract these teeth from within my gums and help expose the teeth that should have already grown in considering my age,” he added. “In this surgery, the team of amazing medical professionals extracted 14 supernumerary teeth and exposed six of my adult teeth. I was under for four hours. My recovery for the past few days has been great and I can’t thank the team that did the surgery enough. Thank you all for your kind wishes and prayers. It means a lot. Again, if you’d like to learn more about Cleidocranial Dysplasia, you can go to ccdsmiles.org. Thanks again everyone.”

Matarazzo will soon be seen in Season 4 of Stranger Things.

July 11 (UPI) — Fox said it has ordered a second season of its dysfunctional family comedy, The Moodys, starring Denis Leary.

Season 1 featured six episodes and focused on a Chicago couple as they celebrated Christmas with their three adult children. It aired last December.

The cast includes Elizabeth Perkins, Francois Arnaud, Chelsea Frei and Jay Baruchel.

“With The Moodys, we set out to brand the holidays in the only way Fox can — bold and unconventional. What we ended up with was a special show — and a family — everyone at the network fell in love with,” Michael Thorn, president of entertainment at Fox Entertainment, said in a statement Friday.

“Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill perfectly captured the hysterics of Christmas, with sharp banter and real moments of family togetherness brought to life by Denis Leary, Elizabeth Perkins and the rest of the incredible cast.”

Tiger Woods docuseries coming to HBO in December

Published

July 9 (UPI) — A new docuseries about professional golfer Tiger Woods is coming to HBO in December.

The network announced in a press release Thursday that Tiger, a two-part series about Woods, will premiere Dec. 13. Part two will air Dec. 20.

Tiger is produced by HBO Sports and Jigsaw Productions. The series follows “the rise, fall, and epic comeback” of Woods, 44, who won his first major in 11 years at the 2019 Masters Tournament.

The series is directed by Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land) and Matthew Hamachek (Amanda Knox). Alex Gibney will executive produce with Sam Pollard, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, Armen Keteyian and Jeff Benedict.

Tiger is based on Keteyian and Benedict’s book Tiger Woods. The series features never-before-seen footage and new interviews, including with Woods’ former caddy, Steve Williams, golf legend Nick Faldo, Woods’ ex-partner Dina Parr, and Rachel Uchitel, one of Woods’ alleged former mistresses.

“Few global icons are more visible and less understand than Tiger Woods,” HBO Sports EVP Peter Nelson said. “His prodigy came with painstaking sacrifice; his perfected athleticism immobilized him in agony before the age of 40; his self-made fame enabled a self-destructive world of secrecy; and his redemptive reemergence posed as many questions as it answered — not only about one of the greatest sportsmen ever to live, but also the greater American society that engulfed him.”

Heineman and Hamachek said their goal with the docuseries was “to dive deeper and create an unflinching and intimate portrait of a man, who like all of us, is imperfect and inherently human.”

Tiger will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

Woods will compete at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, next week, his first PGA Tour tournament since the season was suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He will also appear in a virtual version of the British Open, titled The Open for the Ages, that will air July 16 to 19. The special imagines a battle between Woods and Jack Nicklaus in their prime.
