Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos ink deal to produce Lifetime TV movies

Sept. 11 (UPI) — Husband-and-wife celebrities Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have signed on to executive produce two new “Ripped from the Headlines” movies to debut on Lifetime in 2021.

“Kelly and Mark have been important voices in popular culture for the past 20 years and we are so incredibly pleased to have them become a part of the Lifetime family,” Paul Buccieri, group president of A+E Networks, said in a statement Thursday. “We look forward to seeing their creative vision brought to life through these projects.”

Ripa is the host of the daytime talk show Live with Kelly & Ryan and Consuelos is part of the Riverdale cast.

The former All My Children co-stars have been married since 1996 and have three children together.

“As longtime true crime fans, there is nothing more thrilling than tuning into a Lifetime original movie,” the couple said in their own statement. “We are so excited to be working with Paul, Tanya [Lopez,] and their incredibly talented team to bring these ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ stories to the screen.”

Lopez is the executive vice president of movies, limited series and original movie acquisitions at Lifetime & LMN.

Mads Mikkelsen replacing Johnny Depp in ‘Fantastic Beasts’

Nov. 26 (UPI) — Hannibal icon Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts film franchise.

Warner Bros Pictures confirmed the casting news to CNN and Deadline.

Depp said earlier this month he had been asked to step down from the role of Gellert Grindelwald after he lost a real-life libel lawsuit against a British newspaper that described him as an abusive husband during his marriage to actress Amber Heard.

The third movie in the Fantastic Beasts series is in production now in England. It is set for release July 15, 2022.

The prequels to the Harry Potter blockbusters also star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler and Ezra Miller.

Broadway stars descend on small town in first trailer for ‘The Prom’

Nov. 26 (UPI) — Netflix has released the first, full-length trailer for its movie musical The Prom.

Thursday’s 3-minute preview shows Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman and Andrew Rannells as Broadway stars who head to small-town Indiana to defend two teen girlfriends who aren’t allowed to go to their high-school prom together as a couple.

Ryan Murphy directed the film, which also features Jo Ellen Pellman, Kerry Washington, Keegan-Michael Key and Ariana DeBose.

It is scheduled to debut on the streaming service on Dec. 11.

Scottish Deerhound Claire wins the National Dog Show

Nov. 26 (UPI) — Claire, a Scottish Deerhound, was crowned the winner at the National Dog Show in Philadelphia on Thursday.

NBC aired the 19th edition of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia competition after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The program is scheduled to be re-broadcast Thursday night at 8 p.m. EST.

Television star John O’Hurley hosted the event, alongside David Frei, a longtime breeder-owner-handler and American Kennel Club judge.

No spectators were present for this year’s competition due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A 2-year-old male Bulldog named Thor won the Best in Show title in 2019.
